The First Step into My Career

Hi everyone!

I want to talk about my European Solidarity Corps project and my own Solidarity Project in Copenhagen.

First, for my ESC project, I worked at the international department of Københavns Professionshøjskole. I was responsible for organizing social activities and events for the students, focusing on the international ones. I was planning, marketing, and executing the events either by myself or in collaboration with other colleagues. I also did some office work.

I came here in October, rather than August when I was supposed to. So, shifting from +30 degrees weather to wearing scarves and gloves was a sharp change. But I have always loved the Hygge concept, and I wanted to try it out to keep me sane 🙂 So, I bought candles, blankets, hot cocoa, and some board games. Then I organized a Halloween-themed board game night for my students, which was the most enormous success! I was so glad to have found something that brought everyone together. When the next semester was starting, I was thinking of ways to bring Danish and international students together. And guess what made it happen? Board games again! It was becoming the answer to everything, which was so amazing. So, for my Solidarity Project, I decided I wanted to buy some board games and donate them to Studenterhuset, a non-profit organization, a café for students by students. It has been one of my favorite places since I moved to Copenhagen. There are lots of international students working as baristas alongside me, as a volunteer! I have always felt welcomed and belonged. I learned how to make coffee and other drinks. I even tried to speak Danish at times to the customers. And of course, I made friends. So what could be the best thing to do to give something back to my friends and future students that helped me out when I started out?

Exploding Kittens was the biggest success!
A Turkish, a Spanish, a French, a Russian, a Norwegian, and a 3/4 Dane 1/4 Italian walk into a bar 🙂
