My RIA project is about stereotypes people have about different countries (Odder hojskole students are from so they could really relate to it), cultures and nationalities, the sources people got them from and the possible ways to deconstruct them.
I interviewed 30 students (13 danes and 17 internationals) by asking the above-mentioned information. As the result I wanted to create an article with interviews. However, finishing typing all their answers I understood it would be too boring to read all their answers as I had them. F.e. Emma said: I have these stereotypes …, I got them from …, we can do this … to get rid of them.
Therefore, I decided to sort all the information, make statistics, create diagrams and charts to show clearly the result of their answers. I also decided not to put their answers depending on people who said them but rather create tables to combine opinions about specific nationalities and countries. It seemed wrong for me to quote people (considering the journalistic ethics) because some of them didn’t want to be quoted.
Eventually, I got an article with 3 main blocs: 1) what stereotypes people have about each other, 2) the sources they got them from (a chart) and 3) how to get rid of stereotypes (if it’s possible) – here I have 3 different opinions because not all of the students thought we should get rid of stereotypes.
I don’t have pictures because I didn’t need them and the link to the article I sent before. It would be great to put this article also on AFS official web-site. However, my article was created in WIX which is poor in possibilities that’s why it would be great to use another program to make a layout better.
