Joaquin’s project

My name is Joaquín, and I am a Mexican and Spanish volunteer. My solidarity project aimed to connect international and local students through a new culture in this case, the Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos.

Día de Muertos is a traditional Mexican celebration that honors deceased loved ones through rituals, food, music, and fun. At DTU, we recreated this tradition in an effort to provide an authentic experience of Mexican culture.

With the help of 43 enthusiastic Mexican volunteers we designed a program that included:

How it went

International students had the chance to discover Mexican culture through art, food, and stories. At the same time, Mexican students felt proud to share their traditions and were happy to connect with each other. One Mexican-Danish volunteer even told me, “It felt like being back in Mexico, even if just for a few hours.”

What I Learned…

The best solidarity projects come from the heart.
