The “Give Things a Second Life” Event at CPH Village Nørrebro

Living at CPH Village in Nørrebro has been one of the most enriching experiences during my European Solidarity Corps project year. CPH Village is more than just a housing solution; it’s a concept designed to foster a sense of community and sustainability among its residents. Nestled in the heart of Nørrebro, this village is a vibrant space where individuals come together to live, share, and grow. One of the most remarkable aspects of CPH Village is its commitment to building a strong community, with numerous shared spaces and events that encourage interaction and collaboration.

About the Event

Give Things a Second Life” was designed to be an exciting day of community building through art and celebration. We wanted to create an event that allowed everyone, from long-time residents to newcomers, to connect, express their creativity, and leave a lasting impact on our shared spaces.

Art Activity
  • Gather at the community space: This central location was perfect for bringing everyone together.
  • Engage in a collaborative art project: The main activity involved decorating common areas. The poll we conducted showed a preference for transforming recycled items into art, which aligns perfectly with our sustainability goals.
  • All materials provided: We supplied paints, brushes, canvases, and various recyclable items to be used as art materials.
  • Socialize and express creativity: The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, encouraging participants to mingle and collaborate.
Goals

The primary objectives of the event were:

  • Welcome newcomers: We aimed to help new residents feel integrated and welcomed.
  • Strengthen community bonds: By working together on a creative project, residents could forge stronger connections.
  • Give back to the community: As part of our ESC project, contributing to the village’s communal spaces was a key goal.
  • Promote sustainability: By reusing items, we highlighted the importance of sustainability in our community.

This event was more than just a day of fun; it was a celebration of our community spirit and a step towards making CPH Village an even more vibrant and connected place to live.
