Anna’s Project

Løppemarked / Clothes Fair

At the school “Halvorsminde Efterskole og Fri Fagskole” – Sunday 02.06. & Monday 03.06.

In my solidarity project, I organized a Clothes Fair for my students to raise awareness of fast fashion and its environmental impact. Together, we could give old clothes a second life and save them from the bin.

The process

In order to achieve a successful clothes fair a handful of preparations were needed: First of all, I had to talk to the headmaster about whether it would be possible to organize such a project, where and when it should take place, and so on. Then the clothes collection started, and we gathered clothes from students and teachers as well as clothes that were forgotten or left at school and never collected. We were able to assemble a large amount of clothes.

On Saturday, I started with selecting the clothes so that the students could find the garments they were looking for more easily. Each table was dedicated to a specific type of clothing, e.g. one for jumpers, T-shirts, jackets, shoes, etc.

The clothing exchange began on Sunday afternoon. The students were able to look at the clothes and choose the ones they wanted. The pupils who had stayed over the weekend came to the clothes fair from 1.30 pm. However, we continued the fair until the evening and then on Monday till the afternoon, so that all returning students also had the opportunity to browse through the clothes.

On Monday afternoon I sorted the leftover clothes into boxes so that they could be easily found and hopefully used for the next clothes fair.

Résumé

It was really nice to give the old clothes a second life and do something good for the environment. It was also great to see the students find clothes that fit perfectly. All in all, it was a very nice experience (but I underestimated the time it took to prepare for this clothing exchange 😊)
